Greenpeace’s field at Glastonbury Festival is famous for hosting one of the best parties on the British festival scene with everything from cafés to art installations, slides and even eco hot showers!
As a base for environmental education that is also an inspiring and enjoyable space it relies on being able to attract attention and create a stimulating space.
As an early adopter of the ModTruss in the UK, Factory Settings have been at the forefront of some of the most interesting projects with the modular construction system. Specialising in design led installations and experiences they create fantastic sculptures, sets, exhibitions and more for many industry leading clients. Factory Settings have worked with Greenpeace on their Glastonbury event for years, bringing ModTruss to their client’s attention for the 2017 festival.
‘The Rave Tree’ is the epicentre of the Greenpeace field, standing 22 m high with an elevated DJ platform and full sound and light installation and is used to shout Greenpeace’s message from the treetops – in 2019 it was “Jungle Isn’t Massive” to highlight the plight facing the world’s jungles from deforestation.
ModTruss is used for the base and lower trunk of the tree to provide a solid foundation on which a recycled steel fabrication (previously used for the Greenpeace No Planet B rocket) is fixed with steel branches reaching out to give its final shape. Using almost 350 ft of 12” ModTruss and a number of custom accessories, the Rave Tree is a substantial construction and yet takes only a couple of days to build.
A reusable product with a long-life span able to withstand harsh site conditions ModTruss is the perfect product for festival and events builders and production managers looking to minimise wastage, a large influencer in Greenpeace’s decision to choose ModTruss for a second year. The easy ability to modify repeat structures year on year to freshen up form and function means a minimal amount of time on the drawing board or in the workshop.
Triple E is delighted to have once again been involved in aiding a leading designer and builder to help make the dreams and ideas of an organisation come to life whilst minimising waste and ensuring the music never stops.
